There are seasons in life that we would never choose for ourselves.

As parents, watching one of your children struggle is one of the hardest things you can experience. You want to help, but sometimes you don't know what the right next step is. There are questions, difficult decisions, and moments when you wonder if you're doing enough.

Our family experienced that.

One of our children struggled with reading and learning, and while we searched for answers, there were times we couldn't pursue every option we wanted because of circumstances, including the cost of testing and what our insurance would or wouldn't cover. Looking back, there are moments when I've questioned those decisions and wondered if I could have done more.

Over time, I've come to realize something important.

As parents, we make the best decisions we can with the information, resources, and circumstances we have at the time. God doesn't ask us to be perfect parents—He asks us to trust Him as we walk through the journey.

Although our children's paths looked different, those experiences gave me a passion I never expected. God used our family's journey to place a burden on my heart for parents who are quietly asking the same questions I once asked.

That journey eventually led to Beyond the Words, a parent network for families navigating reading challenges. It wasn't created because anyone has all the answers. It was created because no parent should have to feel alone.

Sometimes the greatest encouragement comes from sitting across the table from another parent who simply says, "I understand. We've been there too."

Beyond the Words is a place to share experiences, ask questions, learn about available resources, and remind one another that every child learns differently and every family has a unique journey. Whether you're just beginning to ask questions, have a child with dyslexia, or are supporting a child with another reading or learning challenge, you are welcome.

Most of all, I hope parents know this:

There is hope.

Your child's struggles do not define their future.

You are not alone.

God often takes the experiences that have stretched us the most and uses them to encourage someone else who is just beginning the journey.

"Praise be to the God... who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."
