The Muncie Baptist Church Covenant

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God and angels, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love;[i]

     To strive for the advancement of this Church in knowledge, holiness, and comfort;[ii]

     To promote its prosperity and spirituality;[iii]

     To sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines;[iv]

     To give it a sacred pre-eminence over all institutions of human origin;[v]

     To contribute joyfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the  Church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.[vi]

We also engage to maintain Christian family homes and Godly lives by modeling a life of deep personal devotion;

     To recognize and uphold marriage as the Bible defines it as a union between one man and one woman;[vii]

     To abstain from any and all sexual relations outside of marriage;[viii]

     To religiously educate our children;[ix]

     To seek the salvation of our family and community;

     To be just in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our Christian character and conduct among ourselves and others;[x]

     To keep our bodies holy as a temple of God, to avoid overindulgence and excess.[xi]

     To be zealous in our efforts to advance the Kingdom of the Savior.[xii]

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love;

     To remember each other in prayer;[xiii]

     To aid each other in sickness and distress:[xiv]

     To cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech;[xv]

     To be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation.[xvi]

It is our belief being part of the Body of Christ, upon leaving this church, we will seek to join another church and continue to carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.[xvii]

Muncie Baptist Church Core Beliefs

Bible

We believe the Bible to be the complete Word of God.

  • That the 66 books of the Old and New Testament were inspired by the Spirit of God as originally written
  • That the Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and conduct · 2 Timothy 3:16

God

We believe in one God, Creator of all, holy, sovereign, eternal, existing in three equal Persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit

Jesus Christ

We believe in the absolute and essential deity of our Lord Jesus Christ

  • In His eternal existence, with the Father in pre-incarnate glory
  • In His work of creation, in His virgin birth, sinless life, substitutionary death and bodily resurrection
  • In His triumphant ascension, mediatorial ministry and personal return

The Holy Spirit

We believe in the absolute and essential deity, and in the personality of the Holy Spirit

  • Who convinces of sin, of righteousness and of judgment
  • Who regenerates, indwells, seals, sanctifies, illuminates and comforts those who believe in Jesus Christ
  • Who baptizes believers at conversion into the Body of Christ and bestows upon them His gifts sovereignly as He wills and fills those yielded to Him

Mankind

We believe that Adam was divinely created in the image of God

  • That by the sin of disobedience he fell from that state
  • That all his posterity inherited spiritual depravity and defilement
  • That all men therefore are guilty before God and condemned to physical and spiritual death

Salvation

We believe that salvation is by the sovereign grace of God

  • That by the Father, Christ voluntarily suffered a propitiatory death
  • That justification is by faith alone in the all-sufficient sacrifice and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ
  • That those whom God has effectually called shall be divinely preserved and ultimately perfected in the image of the Lord
